The SMART Exemplary School designation is awarded by SMART to schools who demonstrate innovative leadership in using educational technology to deliver positive learning outcomes.
Characteristics of a SMART Exemplary School:

Innovative use of SMART solutions
- SMART education solutions (Interactive displays or Lumio) in use throughout the school
- Develops and shares innovative practices for using SMART solutions to enhance teaching and learning

Passionate leadership and staff
- Senior school leadership support for becoming a SMART Exemplary School
- An identified SMART Exemplary School lead
- Active teacher participation in SMART | Lumio professional learning (webinars, coursework, etc.)
- At least 10% of teachers are SMART Ambassadors

Active participation with SMART
- Willingness to facilitate and host SMART customer visits to the school and be a SMART reference
- Willingness to support SMART activities such as case studies, success stories, webinars, blogs, videos, and conferences
- Regularly share about SMART solutions via social media using #WeAreSmart and #GoLumio

SMART Exemplary Council
Fife is Scotland’s second largest education authority and provides a broad and balanced education to over 55,000 children and young people in 159 establishments ranging from small rural schools to state-of-the-art, purpose-built schools in urban areas. They have more highly skilled literate children than ever in Fife and literacy is rising and has increased in all levels from the early stages through to post 16 education. The effective use of digital technologies and skills is a vital part of all schools in Fife. The Education Support Officer Team have an effective and robust training program focused on the pedagogy of digital literacy. SMART and Fife’s Digital Learning Team work in partnership across the schools to ensure the learning and teaching is inspiring the lives of teachers and children in Fife.

SMART Exemplary Council
Midlothian is the fastest growing authority in Scotland and currently consists of 15,000 young learners within 42 establishments. In 2023, Midlothian started a new project to improve learning and teaching across the council. This Digital Transformation project, “Equip for Learning,” looked to enhance the digital skills for learning, life and work. Midlothian Council saw the key benefits that SMART could offer in relation to interactivity, engagement and collaboration. This project has received National awards and short listed for Bett and Garner awards. Local school inspectors have also noted that 75% of schools now have Digital Technology as a key strength within their schools. SMART’s partnership with Midlothian Council continues with ongoing professional developments programs and Ambassador meetings.

SMART Exemplary Council
North Lanarkshire Council have recently established a single supplier contract to provide a consistent approach for all their 154 schools within the North Lanarkshire Area. SMART and NLC are working in partnership to ensure a consistent delivery of a high-quality digital learning experiences across all areas within the council. All the NLC Digital Pedagogy Team are signed up as SMART Ambassadors and SMART’s partnership with North Lanarkshire will continue with ongoing professional developments programs to enhance the learning and teaching.
