Drew Charter School transforming a community, one project at a time

Drew Charter School transforming a community

The link between a child’s chance at success in life and their education has never been as chillingly demonstrated than when officials used grade 4 reading scores in the East Lake community of Atlanta, GA, to predict future rates of incarceration from the community.

When community planners began to redevelop the community, including the modern Drew Charter School, things began to change. Drew Charter School reinvented the way children in the community approached learning, focusing on project-based learning initiatives that put students in charge of their own learning.

The inclusion of SMART Board® interactive displays and SMART Notebook® software has been the perfect complement to these initiatives. Students are drawn to lessons where they can write on the board, drag and drop images and play a more active part in their education.
